SAP Return to Duty Process

If you’ve encountered a violation in accordance with the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) drug and alcohol regulations, navigating the Return to Duty process can feel overwhelming. At AACS Counseling, we specialize in guiding individuals through this journey with our comprehensive SAP Return to Duty program. At AACS Counseling, we have over 30 years of experience in guiding safety-sensitive individuals through the DOT Return-to-Duty process, and we understand the importance of a structured and supportive approach to the SAP Return to Duty process. Our experienced team is here to provide the guidance and assistance you need to navigate this journey successfully.

Here’s a breakdown of how we can assist you:

  • Violation Detection: Employers often discover violations through: pre-employment background checks, random drug testing, and post-accident drug & alcohol testing, signaling the need for completion of the return-to-duty process. Our SAP program steps in to provide support and guidance in these situations.
  • Evaluation: Upon referral to our program, our qualified Substance Abuse Professionals (SAPs) conduct thorough assessments to understand the extent of the violation. These evaluations are personalized to address individual needs effectively.
  • Recommendations: Based on the evaluation, tailored recommendations are provided. These may include educational programs, or treatment options, ensuring comprehensive care aligned with DOT regulations.
  • Return-to-Duty Process: Once treatment is completed, individuals undergo a return-to-duty evaluation with our SAP. This assessment ensures readiness to resume safety-sensitive duties, facilitating a smooth transition back to work while adhering to DOT regulations.
  • Ongoing Monitoring: Depending on recommendations, individuals may undergo ongoing monitoring to maintain compliance with DOT regulations. This may involve follow-up testing or continued support to promote sustained recovery and workplace safety.

Recommendations usually consist of alcohol and drug education or alcohol and drug treatment.

Both Alcohol and Drug / Substance Use Education and Treatment aim to provide information, resources, and support needed regarding the risks, effects, and consequences of alcohol and drug use.

Alcohol and drug EDUCATION is usually recommended to individuals with minimal substance abuse concerns, focusing on increasing awareness and promoting responsible behavior.

On the other hand, alcohol and drug TREATMENT is usually recommended for individuals with more serious substance abuse issues, involving treatment plans aimed at addressing underlying causes, developing coping strategies, and promoting long-term recovery.
